I was served divorce papers yesterday.
Is that all there is to it?
No "Hey, guess what...I'm going to file for divorce - heads up notice for ya - start saving money to find yourself a lawyer like I've been doing as I've known I was going to do this for a while..." kinda thing?
So, yep. That is all there is to it after nearly 27 years.
I have 30 days to totally get my act together and reply. Well, less than 30 now. So, in about as much time as this contest ran - is all I have.

Same thing happened to me after 27 years of marriage. (Makes me think this post is about me.) Except that I ended up being the one to start the divorce proceedings after being told he didn't want to be married to me anymore because he wanted to be with someone else. (And then he was "shocked" that I filed for divorce. Go figure.) Good luck with that Mariann! Sending virtual hugs and support!
ReplyDeleteWell, I knew it would happen "eventually" - he's been out of the house for like five years now...but it could not come at a worse time as I've had some "issues" with my butt and hopefully I will not need surgery...and my daughter has chronic nausea and has been missing a buttload (yes, pun) of days at school and she's a senior in high school. She was ranked 2nd in her class - she fell to 3rd because of getting a couple B's, which are probably still A's as they are AP and Honours classes...but they are saying they will have to throw her out of school if she misses X more days. So...seriously, I'm sure this upset her (altho she's always saying she's not stressed) and he could have waited two months. What was two more months? Honestly. This is just not nice.
ReplyDeleteMy son was also in high school when my husband/his dad left. People discount how upsetting it is for older kids, but it's perhaps even more devastating when they know exactly what's going on. I'm keeping you and your daughter in my thoughts!

Oh man, you are in for the ride of your life. Divorce, which I am currently going through, is the second hardest thing I've ever been through. Second only to having my teenager committed to a mental institute, so that ought to show you how tough it is.
